Happy new year from a couple of Scandal's puppies - pooped out after that big party in the whelping box last night. All of us at Gallica Scottish Terriers wish you and yours a blessed 2010. It has now been one week (about) since Scandal's (Ch Gallica's Ever So Clever)puppies arrived - and it has been a bit of a sleep deprived week.
We are quite happy that this blessed event happened during the holidays so that both of us were here to work the load. As of today (as you can read to the left) we have 3 puppies thriving- and they are quite little bruisers - in fact, with only 3 we will be watching to make sure they do not too fast for their legs to get under them (plenty of milk in mamma).A little recap - Scandal's first puppy was born naturally, though with some encouragement. However, after more than 2 hours following that Scandal was making no progress whatsoever in delivering and there was something unusual about the presentation so we decided a C-Section was in order. The emergency C-Section (at about 2am) delivered 3 live puppies and a 4th who was not alive (the puppy suffered from developmental defect called Anasarca - a mild case, the puppy looked normal, but not alive). We had expected 4 live ones from C-section since we thought we had heard 4 puppies, but as is sometimes the case using doppler - we counted 1 puppy twice.
